Scholar's Day Atlanta 2019 Recap

Nearly 1,200 scholars, parents, and educators from around the country gathered in Atlanta, GA at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center to participate in Scholar’s Day 2019, NSHSS’s largest event of the year.

This two-day event kicked off Friday evening, on November 22, with student Passion Project Exhibition presentations, highlighting STEAM & Innovation and World Betterment projects. Later, the opening ceremony included the #FutureFocused panel and featured keynote speaker Sofia Gonzalez, NSHSS Educator of the Year 2019. The night ended with a member party featuring a lip-sync battle, a DJ, and an ice cream bar.

On Saturday, members and their families explored the College & Career Expo, which included booths from Auburn University, Duke Kunshan University, U.S. Department of State, and many more. Attendees were also able to shop the NSHSS store, attend our mentor roundtable session, and participate in our exciting educational workshops featuring presenters from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), U.S. Army, AcceptU, Method Test Prep, and many more. Scholarship recipients and experts from Scholarship America, Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, and UNCF shared their tips on how to find and earn scholarship dollars during a morning panel, and an afternoon panel of college admissions experts offered their best advice on the application process. The event concluded with a Member Recognition Ceremony for our members and scholarship winners, formally recognizing our newly-inducted high-achieving scholars! We also recognized Richard Ross, the recipient of the Claes Nobel World Betterment Award. If you missed this event, don’t worry, there will be more like it coming in 2020.
