Atlanta, GA - December 29, 2024 - The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) joins the nation and the world in mourning the passing of President Jimmy Carter. As a proud 22-year-old Atlanta-based organization dedicated to supporting high-achieving young scholars across 170 countries and all 50 states, NSHSS reflects on our connection with President Carter and Mrs. Rosalynn Carter, and their unwavering commitment to education, public service, and world betterment.

Our relationship with President and Mrs. Carter began in 2006 when NSHSS Co-founder Claes Nobel, the grandnephew of Alfred Nobel, introduced the Carters to the mission of NSHSS. Recognizing our shared values, the Carters graciously welcomed our students and parents to The Carter Center for several years. These annual gatherings provided an invaluable opportunity for our scholars to be inspired by President Carter's legacy of leadership and humanitarianism and the ongoing work of the Carter Center throughout the world.

The collaboration between NSHSS and The Carter Center was a testament to our mutual dedication to promoting education, mental health awareness, and public service. President Carter and his late wife Rosalynn's life exemplified these values, and their legacy continues to inspire the leaders of tomorrow. Their dedication to world betterment and mental health awareness aligns seamlessly with our mission to nurture the next generation of leaders who are committed to making a positive impact on the world.

As we honor the memory of President Jimmy Carter, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire Carter family and his many colleagues and friends at The Carter Center. His legacy will forever be a beacon of hope and inspiration for our scholars and future generations.

James Lewis, President
National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)
