Meet the speakers

Kachiu Lee, MD | Director of Direct Med (BS/MD) Advising of MedSchoolCoach

Dr. Lee specializes in BS/MD admissions and has been working with this unique population of applicants since 2010. After attending a prestigious boarding school for high school, she was accepted into seven combined bachelor-medical degree programs. Northwestern University’s highly selective Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME). She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a Bachelors of Arts in Biology. Afterwards, she graduated from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL.  She then completed a dermatology residency at Brown University, and served as Chief Resident during her final year. She completed her fellowship in Photomedicine, Lasers, and Cosmetics at Massachusetts General Hospital and was a Clinical Fellow at Harvard Medical School. Academically, she has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and lectures internationally on photomedicine and dermatology. She has several research grants supporting her work in developing cutting-edge technologies for treatment of skin cancer. 

Dr. Lee also has an interest in medical education, and dedicates time to medical student and resident teaching, serving as an editor to the First Aid (First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, First Aid for the USMLE Step 2 CS [senior editor], First Aid for USMLE Step 2 CK, and First Aid for the USMLE Step 3 [senior editor]) book series. 

Dr. Lee is a board-certified dermatologist, practicing in an academic setting as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Brown University.

Laura Baldasare | College Advisor, MedSchoolCoach

As a college advisor and academic coach, Laura Baldasare works with high school- and college-aged individuals who want to stay academically competitive. Her empathetic yet candid approach helps her form effective relationships with a full range of learners. Laura’s measurable achievement in her work with clients is the numerous acceptances to selective colleges and universities they receive. Additionally, she effectively equips individuals who are challenged by ADHD, ADD, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders, addressing barriers to result in higher educational accomplishments.

The college admissions process utilizes the best of her combined experiences, including studying individual behavior and interests to build a trusting connection that leads to more accurate placement, coaching students to write high impact personal statements, and managing the process to ensure timely submissions.
