Adelaide Barlow
Adelaide Barlow is a recent IB diploma graduate of Corning-Painted Post High School. She is now studying engineering and interdisciplinary honors at the University of Washington, Seattle, as a Purple and Gold Scholar, planning to major in Biological Engineering. For the past two years, Adelaide has worked as a student journalist for her high school’s award-winning Tesserae Yearbook as a coverage and reference staffer. This past year, she was also a leading advocate for New Voices New York with the Student Press Law Center. Her opinion editorial, which details the censorship stories of New York State student journalists, was recently published in the Hechinger Report. Since then, she has workshopped with new student advocates on op-ed writing and publishing processes at the New Voices Student Leaders Institute 2024, and, in June, she was awarded the 2024 Press Champion Award by the New York State Coalition for Open Government. Outside of her advocacy work, Adelaide performed the lead role of Maria Rainer in the CPPHS Drama Club spring musical, The Sound of Music. Adelaide was the flute section leader in the Competition Marching Band, and she mentors middle school musicians as a volunteer for BOOST Summer Music Camp in her hometown.
