Carolyn James
Carolyn is from Bakersfield, California. As a Girl Scout, she represents as her council’s National Delegate. She earned her Gold Award for implementing a Robotics Program for a migrant middle school. For the project, Carolyn completed 115 hours planning, fundraising, and developing a STEM elective. She created lesson plans, reviewed feedback, implemented changes, and shared the program with other schools across the county. Carolyn has further developed her leadership skills through an organization called Leaders In Life. She’s a member of the executive planning committee that organizes an annual youth conference. She’s served as the Head of Marketing and PR for 4 years, Co-Chair of Speakers and Workshops, A-Team, and worked the Resource Fair subcommittee and was chosen as the emcee of the conference four times. At school, Carolyn started the Society of Women Engineers Next and coding clubs to promote STEM careers among women. She is president of her high school’s Robotics, Interact, Engineering, and Campus Ministry clubs, as well as the National Honor Society.
Carolyn’s community service projects include volunteering with a youth robotics league, Ronald McDonald House, laying flags on Veterans headstones, serving at 9/11 memorials, rescuing sea turtles in Costa Rica, building bridges in Colorado, donating uniforms and school supplies in Panama, and preserving the native habitat of the Oregon Spotted Frog in Washington.
