Maxwell Mamishev
Maxwell Mamishev is now a first-year Electrical Engineering major at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Previously, he went to Nathan Hale High School and North Seattle Community College. Maxwell participated in several STEM projects throughout his four years in high school.
During the COVID pandemic, he designed the Social Distancing Reminder (SDR), a wearable LiDAR-enabled device that reminds people to keep a distance of six feet or more. He founded a company with two friends to turn a prototype into a product, and eventually, several hundred were distributed to the most vulnerable people through various channels. Some of them are still in use today, especially by immunocompromised people during the flu season.
Maxwell was also active at the University of Washington’s Industrial Assessment Center, working with manufacturers to improve energy efficiency. He headed up a successful campaign to promote energy-saving habits and performed on-site energy audits focusing on sensor-based technology.
Maxwell is now an undergraduate research assistant at UIUC, working on power electronics. He is an IEEE officer at UIUC, and he will be attending the IEEE Rising Stars Conference on behalf of the UIUC branch, presenting his new results in early 2025.
