CIA STEAM Camp 2024

Participate in a 1-day CIA STEAM Camp at the CIA Headquarters

NSHSS members who are entering their junior or senior years of high school or their freshman or sophomore years of college

Scholarship Details:

NSHSS has an amazing opportunity for members who are rising high school juniors, seniors, college freshmen, and college sophomores who are interested in STEAM Careers. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is inviting a limited number of NSHSS scholars to participate in a 1-day, full-immersion CIA STEAM Camp on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the CIA Headquarters. Participants will learn firsthand about the inner workings of the Agency and the Intelligence Community through engaging workshops, hands-on STEAM challenges, an HQS Museum Tour, a visit to the CIA Store, and more.

*Please note, this is an application based event. The review committee will choose and invite the top 22 applicants.

Day of Information:

Attendees should plan to dress in business casual attire. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. Sneakers are acceptable as long as they are in good, clean condition and non-Wi-Fi capable. Small purses/bags are allowed. Attendees will need to pass through a metal detector prior to entry and should plan accordingly. This is an all-day event, so please plan accordingly.

Items visitors should bring:

- Valid ID as stated below

- Water bottle, if desired

- Cash for the gift shop -- credit cards are acceptable; however, cash is preferred

- Medications (medications do not require medical waivers, including epi-pens)

Items visitors should not bring:

- Weapons of any kind, including pocket knives and personal defense items, such as pepper spray

- Electronics of any kind other than previously approved, medically necessary devices. Often forgotten examples include (but are not limited to) smartwatches, Tile/AirTag tracker keychains, smart sneakers, and personal USB devices. Phones should be left at the hotel.

Must be a U.S. Citizen either by birth or naturalization

Must have a valid US government-issued REAL ID and/or a valid US government-issued passport

NSHSS members entering their junior or senior years of high school or their freshman or sophomore years of college

Personal Statement: In approximately 500 words, please respond to all of the questions below:

Question 1: What area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and/or Math (STEAM) interest you and why?

Question 2: What motivates you to become a leader in a STEAM field?

Question 3: What intrigues you about the work of the Central Intelligence Agency? How have you imagined integration of STEAM into the CIA's mission?

Question 4: Describe any school or community STEAM activities in which you have participated in the last three years (i.e., science fairs, math club, after school programs, summer programs, etc.). Have you received any awards/recognition or held office in any of these activities?
