Outward Bound Costa Rica's Outdoor Explorer Scholarship 2023

Scholarship Award: A partial scholarship, valued at USD $1,200, to attend an abroad Tropical Trek, Raft & Waves program for Summer of 2023 with Outward Bound Costa Rica.

About the opportunity:

There are distinct moments in our lives where a single experience can change the course of our future—expanding our outlook, knowledge, and confidence in ways that we did not know were possible. This scholarship is in the spirit of that belief. In partnership with Outward Bound Costa Rica, NSHSS is awarding one member an all in-country expense paid expedition to Costa Rica!

On a Tropical Trek, Raft & Waves adventure course, you will discover the true meaning of “off the beaten path” on a deep-jungle hike while learning about new cultures and discovering your hidden potential. Additional activities include:  whitewater rafting, ziplining through rainforest canopies, a waterfall hike, volunteering on reforestation projects, beach activities, and spotting monkeys, sloths and other wildlife!

**All in-country lodging, food, transportation and activities are included. Flights to and from Costa Rica are not included.

• Please provide a personal statement of 300-500 words that describes your personal drive for why you want to attend an Outward Bound Costa Rica course, what you hope to gain from the Tropical Trek, Raft & Waves experience, your reasons why financial support to attend a course would be helpful to you, and how this abroad experience might be of value to your particular educational  or career goals.

*This is a reminder that this is a partial scholarship. The full tuition is $3,340, therefore if selected you will be responsible for the remainder balance. *
